Laser Liposuction
February 5th, 2011Is laser liposuction worth a try?
Are you already tired of feeling bumpy and grumpy from all the flabs in your body? Already lost hope in all the fat loss drugs that did not live up to its claims? No time to hit the gym and break a sweat? Have the money but scared of wasting it on another non-working fat loss treatment? Then laser liposuction may just be the solution for you.
What is laser liposuction?
Laser liposuction is among one of the advanced treatments of fat removal made possible by recent advancements on technology. Laser liposuction is now one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedures.
How does laser liposuction work?
The concept of how laser liposuction works is rather simple; Lasers are used to heat the fat in the body, turning the fat semi soft, making it easier to be removed through liposuction. This procedure is performed either under local or sedation anesthesia, depending on how much body fat will be removed. The treatment typically is just an outpatient basis.
Although you may feel nothing and be comfortable during the whole treatment process, a tugging and a little stinging may also be felt. The length of the procedure also depends on the amount of body fat to be removed. A follow up session may be needed when dealing with a large area for treatment. These follow up treatments are usually scheduled months after the first laser liposuction, to make sure the incision made during the first procedure is completely healed.
What is the process of laser liposuction?
- Pre-treatment consultation and examination – The prospective patient is first assess by the medical practitioner and examination on the area to be treated are done. All concerns and inquires are discussed regarding the procedure.
- Upon agreement of both parties, the type of anesthesia to be used will also be discussed. Photographs may be taken covering the different angles of the body area to be treated for comparison after the treatment.
- On the day of treatment, medical practitioner will give a run through on the steps to be done during treatment. Patient is placed under anesthesia and then laser liposuction is done.
- See patient the next day to examine incisions made on the area treated and provide general check up. Post operative examinations are scheduled.
- Few weeks after the treatment, photographs may be taken to compare before and after images.
How do I determine if I am a good candidate for laser liposuction?
You should be in good health and well within the 20 pound excess of your ideal body weight. Skin should be mildly or moderately lax because skins which are too lose (may arise from extreme weight loss) cannot be tightened by laser liposuction.
What can you expect from laser liposuction?
Realistic and reasonable expectations like a better silhouette of the body and a reduction of fat on the treated area may be expected only after a week. Skin tightening may come after several weeks to a month after the treatment because new collagen must be produced by the body first before skin tightening can become noticeable. It is the new collagen that is responsible for the tightening of the skin.
What types of laser liposuction are there? Some of the laser liposuction already offered are:
- SmoothLipo
- SmartLipo
- LipoLite
- CoolLipo
- Lifesculpt
What are the possible side effects of having laser liposuction treatments? When done poorly possible side effects are:
- Swelling and Bruising
- Hematoma
- Infection and in rare cases
- Excessive bleeding and Burns (from the laser)
The cost of laser liposuction treatment as of now is quite expensive but greatly depends on the area of the body to be treated. The larger the area, the higher the cost.
Laser liposuction may provide great benefits for the patient as long as the patient is a good candidate and the treatment is done by a well experienced medical practitioner and done in great manner. Still though, results gained from the treatment are only temporary and the best way to maintain it is to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
